Hello, everyone!
It is another busy week for us as it is Homecoming Week, and we have the Bentonville Marching Invitational on Saturday. Please make sure you read everything below carefully, so you don’t miss any important details for the week.
Wednesday is the Homecoming parade in downtown WC. As of now, we plan to meet right near City Hall at 5:30pm. The parade begins at 6pm, traveling north on Main and turning on Aylor. We will then go to play some pep tunes for the bonfire. Once that is complete, we will walk back to the high school to hang up uniforms and put equipment away. We will wear the traditional marching uniform for the parade. The band room will be open after school until about 5pm on Wednesday for students to get uniforms and/or equipment. After the parade, all uniforms and equipment should be brought back to the high school to be put away. Right now, the weather does not look good for Wednesday; I will wait as long as I can before making a call about the parade, but until you hear from me, assume the parade is on.
Friday is the Homecoming football game. We will treat this just like a normal home game, with a 4pm call time on the field. Dinner will be at 5pm, and we will be dressed and ready to warm up at 6pm. Later this week, I will let the students know exactly what to wear for the game. We are still working out some logistical details on uniforms.
Saturday is the Bentonville Marching Invitational. The itinerary is linked below. Students will need their show t-shirts, black athletic shorts, and marching shoes. The BMI is a fantastic contest that will have many heavyweight band programs from the surrounding states. It will be an excellent opportunity to see how we stack up at this moment in time. We are so proud of the band and their accomplishments so far, and we hope to do well at the BMI. I know that the Homecoming dance is Saturday night, and I hate that we have that conflict. There is no blame to be placed; it’s just an unfortunate circumstance. If we do not make finals, you may check your student out after prelim awards if they want to attend the dance. The band will be staying to watch finals, should we not qualify to perform.
We are just about to the beginning of what we affectionately call Bandtober. It is going to be a fun ride! Please remind your kids (don’t worry, we will too) to get as much rest as possible and to drink plenty of fluids. They will think that they don’t need to do that now that the weather has changed, but rest and hydration remain key as we try to stave off illness moving into the cooler months.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Have a great week!
